Bring Me The Horizon - 5/8/2019 - Milwaukee, WI

Earlier this year Bring Me The Horizon had to, unfortunately, cancel the last dates of their First Love Tour due to vocalist Oli Sykes rupturing a vocal cord. Nearing the end of February 2019, Bring Me The Horizon announced that they would be heading back to the states for a spring tour titled their Second Base Tour with support from Brittish rapper, Scarlxrd. This past Wednesday, May 8th, our favorite guys from the other side of the pond brought their journey to The Eagles Ballroom at The Rave in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Having not heard of Scarlxrd before, I was curious who would be joining Bring Me The Horizon on their non-festival tour dates. Scarlxrd is a Brittish rapper who uniquely combines trap music with heavy metal. As the show began, I quickly realized why Bring Me The Horizon had chosen to have Scarlxrd as their supporting act. Though Scarlxrd's music isn't necessarily my preference in music, my hat goes off to him for the creativity of creating what he has. The energy he brought to the crowd was something I have not seen very often in a supporting act. The floor was shaking as the audience jumped up and down, even moshing, to Scarlxrd.

As the curtain revealing Bring Me The Horizon's stage setup dropped so stage hands could finish the final preparations, the filling venue roared in anticipation. Bring Me The Horizon went all out in their production for the Second Base Tour. A large screen behind a catwalk, with smaller screens both under and around the drumset and keyboard setup.

As 9 pm hit, the venue lights dimmed. The giant screen lit up with two dancers in full costume attire stood with their back to the crowd. The bands "Welcome to MANTRA" intro began with the screen taking us on a spiritual journey of peace and freedom. When the video was near its end, "Welcome to MANTRA" was announced and the dancers jumped around to face the crowd as the band started with their hit song, "MANTRA".

The brief break earlier this year allowed the band to rest and for vocalist Oli to recover and it was apparent by their performance and sound. Oli sounded incredible, and everyone was full of energy. As "MANTRA" ended, the band went back a couple of albums to "The House of Wolves". At not one point throughout the night was the crowd still, and at times practically the whole floor area of the venue was a moving moshpit.

Throughout their set, Bring Me The Horizon played many songs from their newest album Amo but also appeased those who were fans of their older work, playing songs from both Sempiternal and Suicide Season. The band finished off their set with an encore of "Can You Feel My Heart" and "Throne".

Bring Me The Horizon's Setlist:

MANTRA The House of Wolves Medicine Wonderful Life Shadow Moses Mother Tongue Happy Song Sleepwalking Diamonds Aren't Forever Follow You Nihilist Blues Antivist Drown Can You Feel My Heart Throne

Bring Me The Horizon didn't disappoint on their stop in Milwaukee, and I can guarantee they will be putting the same amount of energy and excitement in their remaining tour dates throughout May. If you have the opportunity to see these guys before they head back home to England, do so! Longtime fans who have seen them perform before and even new fans who have not will be left nothing short of speechless after witnessing their performance and stage presence.
